Shooting a Liberation

Very exciting shoot today for our film about pigeon racing -‘Home’. We had an early start to capture a ‘liberation’ where all the racing birds are released from their transporter trucks. I had filmed a liberation before, but this time I was joined by Daniel-John Williams, the films producer and co-director who had never witnessed one before.

The idea behind the shoot was to catch Danny’s reaction to the releasing of the thousands of birds. I decided to film, as I did before, with as many cameras as I could bring with me, in this case it was five including a GoPro. All the cameras were set to record in slow motion to capture the event in all its detail and help make the 30 seconds it takes to release the birds and stretch it out to 60 seconds plus. We even put a camera inside the transporter to get a birds eye view of the release.
